NEWS and GOSSIP
TIMEKEEPERS 1 - MAN WITH MORE AMBITION THAN TALENT 0, OR STONE WHLS 25 REPORT.
Time is a an unusual commodity. You've either got to much of the damned stuff on your hands (insert the likes of Joel Wainman or Barry Charlton here)or not not enough of its the precious metal like qualities (insert my name here).Just so as we all know as to where I am going with these ramblings I have long since harboured a secret ambition to break the hour for 25 miles.
As I rode along the A50 on my way back back to the Stone Whls HQ I knew it had been a close run affair between me and old father time.
At the HQ as I peered through jaundiced eye at the results board I knew I had indeed been right.
It was at this point that my darker side, suppressed since the much exaggerated goat incident of 1987,started to bubble up to the surface.
I spoke to Tony Peach, who incidentally had a cracking ride and dipped under the hour by a good 2and 1 half minutes.I am reasonably sure I said well done but just in case well done Tony.
It must be apparent by now that my scribblings are tainted alternativly greeny/yellow(ish)and for for this I appologise.
Anyway back to business and the removal of fingernails with pliers or,and this option seemed to be gaining momentum, the loss of the right hand index finger(yes that's right, the one that presses the button on the stop watch).
As I stepped out of the HQ my first words were Oh hello Audrey(Waddilove)is that a timekeepers card I see you holding.
Aud' stopped put her arm around my shoulder and appologised for letting the clock tell the truth.
The French have long since called time trials the
'Race of Truth'. I shall of course have words with the French on my hols in July
Why/how do females have this ability to make lifes little injustices seem so trivial.
Even so 1 hour exactly.......!
THE ANNUAL DINNER AND AWARDS PRESENTATION
The annual dinner and awards presentation was held at the Brookfield golf course clubhouse on 09/01/12.The meal was a great success. Please pardon me while I have a small contented burp.
After speaking for a short while about the much missed Dave Allbutt,Geoff Chambers introduced the guest speaker from Stone Wheelers, the irrepressible Mr Greg Dancer who entertained the room with tales of alternative tandem riding techniques.I'm sure Cheshires Chief Constable who was stood at the bar was as interested if not as amused as the rest of the room, somebody must have informed Greg of his presence mustn't they?
The awards were dished out liberally by Jonny Waddilove with Ged Barker well deserving of his worlds biggest stirrer wooden spoon for demonstrating horizontal bike riding.Hope your collar bone gets better soon.
The wooden plaque awarded to John Gallagher for his tour of Little Wenlock, tour of Little Wenlock during the trip to Church Stretton is also worthy of mention.Apologies again for repeating myself.

CYCLING HOLIDAY WITH KIDSGROVE WHEELERS
Hi Steve
Could you put a message on the club website please. Barry from Kidsgrove Wheelers rang me yesterday to see if anyone from CCW would be interested in joining them on a cycling trip to Spain in May. It's not been formally organised as yet but if anyone is interested they can contact Nick or myself and we can give them Barry's contact number.
They plan to travel on the Bike Bus and stay in a coastal town near Barcelona for either 9 or 14 days.
Thank you
Caroline

Accident on Reade's Lane, Congleton
HI,
I was wondering if any of your club members could help me.
I am a member of Seamons CC and was on a club ride on Sunday 15th April. I had just finished the descent from Bosley Cloud and passed under the disused railway bridge when I hit a very large pothole (800 mm long x 470 mm wide x 90mm deep) on Reades Lane, Congleton. Although I have no recollection of the accident or the 4-5 hours afterwards, it appears that my back wheel went into the pothole and the bike flipped backwards and flew for approx 20 metres until I landed on my back just after the stone bridge (with the golf course on my left). I was badly injured, I have broken 3 vertebrae in my neck and was knocked unconscious and had massive bruising to my back and sternum. Fortunately my spinal cord is undamaged so I should make a full recovery in time.
I have been in touch with the CTC and they have appointed a solicitor to act on my behalf to pursue a claim against the Council/Highway authority. The reason that I have contacted you is that the solicitor has suggested that I ask around the local cycling community to see if any other cyclist had noticed this pothole at an earlier date (as the councils defence will be that the pothole appeared since their last inspection of the road). Could I please ask you to mention it to your members and if anyone knew about this pothole and how long it had been there, could you ask them to contact me on 0161 928 8231 or by email. (If anyone had reported the pothole that would be even better).
I have attached 3 photos, one was taken at the time by another member of Seamons , the other two are of the location of the pothole which was repaired the following day!
Many thanks in anticipation
Jeanette Barber
